How to Plant Potatoes in Minecraft Pocket Edition
Let's begin our Farming master class!
First, Sugar! Sugar can only be grown next to water, and it can only grow on grass or sand.
Sugar will naturally grow to three stalks high. If you harvest the whole lot, it doesn't grow back so don't harvest it all! Aim for the top two and leave the bottom one to re-grow!
Here is some sugar growing naturally in the world!
When growing other seeds, you will have to till the ground first with a Hoe. By having water next to the tilled land, it will change colour. The darker ground will help the seed grow faster!
Here, we've planted some wheat seeds.
During survival mode, it will get dark at night. Seeds don't grow so well without the sun! So, put some torches around to keep the light and help your seed grow!
Wheat seeds will grow in several stages. When it turns brown, that's when the wheat is ready to be harvest! You will get wheat and extra seeds when you harvest them.
Ooo, some wheat seeds! To acquire wheat seeds, you need to till the ground until they pop up! To re-grow the wheat, you need to re-plant the seeds every time.
Now, melons and pumpkins! Getting the seeds for these is very difficult, you will need to build a Nether Reactor. But this isn't a guide for that, sorry!
Oh, lovely! Two pumpkins and two melons! When harvested, pumpkins will drop just one pumpkin and melons will drop several melon slices.
Best news ever though, these plants will re-grow on their own when you harvest them! Those stalks will stay and grow back soon, so be patient!
From left to right, we have planted Beetroots, Potatoes and Carrots, although you can't tell yet! Beetroot seeds appear the same way as wheat seeds, from tilling the ground but they are much rarer!
Carrots and Potatoes are dropped from killing Zombies, so be careful! Now they look like the vegetables we want! I'm afraid that these plants aren't renewable so you have to re-plant them each time.
Here's something different. When you cut down a tree completely, you might see tree saplings drop from the leaves. From left to right, we have Oak, Spruce and Beech saplings.
This here is an Oak tree, recognisable from its bright green leaves. This is the most common tree you'll see.
This is a Spruce tree. A much darker wood, as you can see! These trees are usually the tallest and found in the snowy biomes.
Finally, a fully grown Beech tree. Instantly recognisable from its white bark and light green leaves. This tree is usually the rarest to find, so be sure to plant some!
When you fight skeletons, they may drop bones when they die. Using those bones, you can craft bonemeal! As the description shows, these are very handy when farming!
Just using bonemeal on plain grass can cause all sorts to grow!
Yellow flowers, cyan flowers, grass and small shrubs may all grow at once, bringing some extra colour to your world!
Now, for growing some cactus. Cactus can only grow on sand and can NOT have another cactus right next to it, so plan your farm around this prickly situation.
Like sugar, cactus will grow to three blocks high. Don't get too close, it will hurt! Try using an axe to harvest, not your bare hands!
A lovely sight! I hope you've enjoyed this Minecraft Farming 101!
